How do I know my old key switch has failed?
Typical symptoms are a dead machine with no dash lights when the key is turned to on, power that cuts out when the key or the wiring at the switch is moved, a key that turns but does not feel like it engages either position, or a switch barrel that is stiff, loose or will not accept the key. Checking for continuity across the switch terminals in the on position will confirm whether the switch itself is passing current.
Is this the DESS type switch?
No. This is the non-DESS type used on European machines that are started with a conventional key. It has two positions, off and on. If your machine uses the coded DESS cap rather than a key, this is not the correct switch for it.
