The ignition key switch is the gate between the battery and the ignition and accessory circuits. On a working utility quad it lives a hard life - jet washing, deep mud, river crossings and years of vibration force moisture and grit past the barrel until the internal contacts pit and corrode. When that happens the machine starts to behave unpredictably: it cuts out over rough ground and comes back when the key is nudged, the dash flickers or stays dead in the On position, or the barrel turns stiffly, feels loose, or will not turn at all.
