How do I know my old key switch has failed?
Disconnect the battery, then check continuity across the switch terminals with the key turned to off and again to on. The circuit should make cleanly in the on position and break cleanly in the off position, with no change when the wiring or barrel is moved. Intermittent readings, a key that has to be held at an angle, or a stiff barrel all point to a worn switch.
