This is a brand new aftermarket three position ignition key switch, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit on a wide range of Yamaha machines built between 1978 and 1999. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, with three wires and three plugs matching the original arrangement, so it goes straight in without cutting or splicing the loom.
The switch has three positions - off, on, and a spring return start position - and one lock position, and it is supplied complete with two keys and a connector so the harness side can be renewed at the same time. Ignition switches on machines of this age typically fail through worn tumblers, corroded contacts or heat damage inside the switch body, all of which produce intermittent power. Replacing the switch outright is usually far quicker than trying to rebuild the original. All product shipped are tested.

What is included in the box?

How do I know the old switch has failed?
Typical signs are the machine cutting out when the key or the bars are moved, no power at all in the on position, a key that turns freely or will not turn, or having to hold the key at an angle to keep the ignition live. Those symptoms point to worn tumblers or burnt contacts inside the switch.
What do the three positions do?
The switch has an off position, an on position and a spring return start position, plus one lock position. The start position returns under spring pressure as soon as you release the key, which is the normal arrangement for these Yamaha models.
