This is a brand new aftermarket 3-position ignition key switch, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to the Yamaha Phazer 480, VK 540 and Ovation 340 snowmobiles. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit part: it mounts in the original location and mates with the machine's existing plug, so no cutting, splicing or modification of the wiring loom is needed. Two keys are supplied with every switch and the connectors are included.
The switch works over three positions - off, on, and a spring-return start position that returns to on when the key is released. It carries five wires and five pins on a 240 mm lead ending in a single plug, and measures 43 mm high by 52 mm long by 43 mm wide. It replaces Yamaha part numbers 8K1-82510-20-00, 8K1-82510-21-00 and 8K1-82508-20-00. Every unit is tested before it is shipped.

How do I know my old key switch has failed?
Common signs are a sled that will not come alive when the key is turned to on, power that drops out when the key or the wiring behind the switch is moved, a start position that no longer cranks the engine, a key barrel that spins without engaging a detent, or burnt and corroded terminals at the plug. Checking continuity across the terminals in each of the three positions will show whether the switch itself is passing current.
What does the third position do?
The third position is a spring return start position. It is held against spring pressure to crank the engine and springs back to the on position as soon as the key is released.
