Brand new 6-pin connector kit, supplied as a direct replacement for original connectors on motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles, boats and personal watercraft. Connector bodies are one of the parts that suffer most on a powersport machine. Heat cycling, vibration, road salt and standing water all take their toll, and a burnt, cracked or corroded connector shell can cause exactly the same symptoms as a failed stator or regulator - intermittent charging, a hot smell around the loom, or a circuit that comes and goes when the harness is moved.
Replacing the connector rather than the whole harness is usually the quickest and cheapest way to put that right. This kit supplies a matched male and female 6-pin pair so both halves of the joint are renewed together, which is the correct way to do the job - fitting a new half against a heat-damaged old half simply passes the problem on. How do I know my old connector needs replacing?
Look for browning or melting around the pin housings, a green or white powdery deposit on the terminals, pins that have pushed back into the shell, a latch that no longer clicks home, or a circuit that works only when you press or wiggle the plug. Any of those means the joint is no longer making reliable contact and should be renewed.
Should I replace both halves or just the burnt one?
Replace both. A connector overheats because the contact resistance at the joint has risen, and that damage is almost always present on both sides even when only one half looks charred. Fitting a new half against a damaged old one usually leads to the new part burning too.
