This is a brand new aftermarket camshaft position sensor, built as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to the Polaris Ranger 800, Ranger 6X6 and XP, Ranger Crew 800, RZR 800 EFI and S, and RZR 4 800 from 2011 to 2017. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, and every unit shipped is tested before it leaves the warehouse.
The camshaft position sensor tells the ECU exactly where the camshaft is in its rotation, which is what allows the engine management system to time injection and ignition correctly for each cylinder. When the sensor goes intermittent or fails outright, the engine typically becomes hard to start or refuses to start at all, stumbles and misfires under load, cuts out unpredictably, and lights the check-engine lamp with a camshaft position fault stored. This unit measures 59 mm long, 50 mm high and 26 mm wide, with a 7 mm thread diameter and a single three-terminal plug, so it threads into the original boss and takes the existing loom connector without alteration. How do I know the old sensor has failed?
Hard starting or a no-start with the engine cranking normally is the most common sign, along with misfiring and stumbling under load, sudden cutting out, and a check-engine light with a camshaft position fault stored. Faults that come and go as the engine warms up are typical of a sensor breaking down internally with heat.
Do I need to reset anything after fitting?
Disconnect the battery before you start work. Once the new sensor is fitted and the battery is reconnected, clear any stored fault code with a diagnostic tool so the check-engine light goes out. Installation should be carried out by a qualified technician.
