Tested PeakRPM CDI Box - RM02143
Honda CH 150 Elite 1985-1987, XL 250 R 1982-1983 and XL 500 R 1982
This is a brand new aftermarket CDI box for the Honda CH 150 Elite, XL 250 R and XL 500 R. The CDI - capacitor discharge ignition - unit is the brain of the ignition system on these machines. It takes the charge produced by the stator source coil, stores it in a capacitor, and dumps it into the ignition coil at precisely the right crank angle to fire the plug. It also carries the timing advance curve, so when the CDI degrades the engine does not simply stop: it can misfire, refuse to rev out, kick back on starting, or die once everything gets hot.
This unit is built to a plug-and-play OEM design, so it connects to the original loom connector and mounts in the factory location with no cutting, splicing or rewiring. It uses OEM-grade electronic components and printed circuit boards for long-term reliability and performance, and each unit is tested before it is shipped. Dielectric connector grease is included in the box - applying it to the loom connector on assembly keeps moisture and corrosion out of the pins, which is one of the most common causes of intermittent ignition faults on machines of this age.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to modify the wiring to fit this CDI?
No. This is a plug-and-play OEM design, so it uses the original connector and mounts in the factory position. No cutting, splicing or rewiring is required.
What is included in the box?
One brand new tested CDI box and dielectric connector grease. Apply the grease to the loom connector when you plug the unit in to seal the pins against moisture.
How can I tell my old CDI has failed?
A dead CDI usually means no spark at all, even though the stator and ignition coil test correctly. A CDI on its way out is harder to spot: the engine may start and run at idle but refuse to rev cleanly, misfire under load, cut out once it is hot and restart after cooling, or kick back when starting because the timing curve has drifted. If the source coil and ignition coil both measure within specification and there is still no reliable spark, the CDI is the remaining suspect.
Why does the grease matter on a machine of this age?
The CDI connectors on early-eighties Hondas are the weak link. Four decades of damp and vibration corrode the pins, and the resulting high-resistance joint produces symptoms identical to a failing CDI. Packing the connector with the supplied dielectric grease on reassembly keeps water out and helps ensure the new unit is judged on its own performance.
