The RMSTATOR machined aluminium MOSFET voltage regulator is an upgrade rather than a like-for-like part. Where a standard regulator sits in a cast housing, this one is machined from billet aluminium, and RMSTATOR quote a measured result for the difference: after ten minutes of use the billet aluminium heatsink runs 33 per cent cooler than a standard cast regulator housing. Heat is what destroys regulators, so shedding it faster is the most direct way to make one last.
Underneath the heatsink the unit uses MOSFET regulation instead of the older diode arrangement, so surplus stator output is switched away rather than burned off inside the casing. Overheat protection is built in - under a sustained overload the regulator shuts off temporarily instead of burning up, then resumes once it has cooled. Installation is plug-and-play: two plugs, five pins, a 103 mm square body and fixing holes on 80 mm centres. The box also contains the opposite connector for the main harness side, since those plugs are so often found melted, corroded or defective on the machines this part suits.

Will it fit without modification?
On the machines RMSTATOR list it is a direct replacement with plug-and-play installation - two plugs, five pins, fixing holes on 80 mm centres. The one documented exception is the 2006 and 2007 Can-Am Outlander 400, which needs a wiring conversion. Because this part covers a very wide range of makes, always match the number on your original regulator against the cross reference table above before ordering.
What is included?
The machined aluminium MOSFET regulator, plus the opposite connector for the main harness side so the loom-side plug can be renewed at the same time.
How do I tell whether my old regulator has failed?
Check the charging voltage across the battery with the engine running: it should hold at least 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V. No rise means the unit is not charging; a reading much above 15 V means it has stopped regulating and is overcharging. A regulator body that is too hot to touch shortly after a run, or a connector showing melting or corrosion, points the same way.
What difference does the billet aluminium housing actually make?
RMSTATOR measured it: after ten minutes of use the machined billet heatsink runs 33 per cent cooler than a standard cast regulator housing. Since heat is what wears out the semiconductors inside, a cooler housing directly extends the working life of the unit.
