This is a brand new external ignition coil covering a wide spread of Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki and Yamaha machines built between 1976 and 2015, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit. The ignition coil is the step-up transformer of the ignition system: it takes the low voltage pulse it receives and converts it into the high tension charge required to jump the spark plug gap. Sitting as it does in a hot, vibrating and often wet position on the machine, it degrades gradually rather than failing outright, and a tired coil usually shows itself as a weakening spark long before it stops working completely.

Will this fit without modification?
Yes, once your OEM spark plug cap has been reinstalled on the new coil. From that point it is a plug-and-play, direct fit replacement using the original 54 mm mounting hole centres, with no cutting or splicing of the harness. Because this coil covers five different manufacturers, always check the number on your original unit against the cross reference table before ordering.
What is included?
The external ignition coil. A spark plug cap is not supplied - the design assumes you will carry over the OEM cap from your original coil, which is what allows one part to serve so many different machines. Unscrew the cap from the old lead and thread it onto the new one before fitting.
How do I know the old coil has failed?
Coils normally fail progressively. Watch for hard starting, a spark that is weak or intermittent, a misfire that appears or worsens once the engine is hot, hesitation under load, or an engine that cuts out when warm and restarts after cooling. Visible cracking, tracking marks or corrosion on the coil body or the lead are further signs that the insulation has broken down.
