External Ignition Coil with Spark Plug Cap for Kawasaki KLF 300 Bayou
Kawasaki KLF 300 Bayou B and C - 1988-2004 - RMSTATOR part RM06017
The ignition coil is the component that turns the low voltage signal from the ignition system into the high voltage pulse that jumps the spark plug gap. When it starts to break down, a Kawasaki KLF 300 Bayou will usually crank happily but refuse to fire, or it will start from cold and then misfire, cut out under load or die completely once the engine has warmed through. Because the fault comes and goes with heat, a failing coil is often mistaken for a fuelling or carburettor problem.
This is a brand new aftermarket external ignition coil supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit on the KLF 300 Bayou. It arrives complete with the spark plug cap fitted, so there is nothing to unscrew and transfer across from the old coil. Installation is plug-and-play and direct fit: the bracket spacing, the wire lengths and the connectors follow the factory layout, so the coil bolts to the original mounting point and the harness reaches without cutting, splicing or extending anything. The coil is wound on the highest grade lamination materials, and every unit is tested before it leaves the factory.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this coil fit without modifying the machine?
Yes. It is a direct fit, plug-and-play replacement for the original coil. The bracket centre to bracket distance is 80 mm to match the factory mounting, and the three leads are supplied at 400 mm, 280 mm and 285 mm so they reach the original connection points. No cutting, splicing or drilling is needed.
Do I need to reuse my old spark plug cap?
No. Unlike many external coils, this one is supplied with the spark plug cap already fitted, so the old cap can stay with the old coil. That matters on a machine of this age, because a corroded or cracked cap is a common cause of a weak spark in its own right.
How can I tell whether my old coil has failed?
The usual signs are a weak, intermittent or absent spark, hard starting, misfiring under load and stalling once the engine is hot. You can check the coil with a multimeter against the figures above: the primary winding should read around 4 ohms and the secondary around 14.6k ohms. A reading that is open circuit, close to zero, or a long way from those values points to a failed coil.
Does it suit both the Bayou B and the Bayou C?
Yes. This part covers the Kawasaki KLF 300 Bayou in both B and C forms across the 1988-2004 span. If you are unsure which variant you have, check the number stamped on the coil you are removing against 21121-1049 in the cross reference table above.
