This is a brand new aftermarket external ignition coil, built as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to a wide run of Kawasaki KLR650 and Mule utility machines and Suzuki Boulevard and Intruder cruisers. The coil takes the low voltage pulse from the ignition system and steps it up to the tens of thousands of volts the spark plug needs, so a tired or breaking down coil shows up as a weak spark long before it shows up on a meter. Every unit is tested before it is dispatched.
The coil measures 80 mm between the centres of its two fixation holes and carries a 515 mm wire lead, with a measured resistance of 2.5 ohms. Installation is a direct fit and becomes fully plug-and-play once your original spark plug caps are transferred across: unscrew the cap or caps from your old coil and screw them onto the new one. The caps themselves are not supplied, so keep the originals to hand when you start the job.

Will this fit without modifying my wiring?
Yes. The coil is a direct fit with 80 mm between the fixation hole centres and a 515 mm lead, so it bolts into the original position and connects to the existing harness. No cutting or drilling is needed.

How do I know my old ignition coil has failed?
Typical symptoms are hard starting when the engine is hot, misfiring under load, a spark that jumps weakly or intermittently, and cutting out that clears once the engine cools. A primary resistance reading well away from 2.5 ohms, or an open circuit, points at the coil. Rule out a fouled plug, a perished cap and a damaged lead first.
What resistance should I measure on this coil?
This coil is specified at 2.5 ohms. Measuring it cold with a multimeter is the quickest way to compare a suspect original against the replacement.
