This is a brand new aftermarket external ignition coil for the Yamaha YZ 125 and YZ 125X built between 2005 and 2022. It is a direct replacement for the original Yamaha unit, using the same mounting points and the same connections, so no cutting, splicing or bracket modification is needed. The external ignition coil takes the low voltage feed from the ignition system and steps it up to the high voltage needed to jump the spark plug gap. How do I tell whether my old ignition coil has failed?

My coil harness has no yellow wire - is that a problem?
No. The yellow wire is not used on every YZ 125 variant. Where it does not apply to your model it can simply be removed, and the coil will work normally on the remaining connections.
