External Ignition Coil for Honda and Kawasaki - RM06163
Honda TRX 680 Rincon, CRF 450 R, NT 700 V - Kawasaki KEF 300 Lakota - 1995-2014
A brand new aftermarket external ignition coil, built as a replacement for the original coil fitted to a range of Honda and Kawasaki machines. The coil is the component that takes the low voltage feed from the ignition system and steps it up to the tens of thousands of volts needed to jump the spark plug gap. As the windings age and the insulation breaks down, that output falls away and the result is a weak or intermittent spark - hard starting, misfires and stumbling under load, often worst when the engine is hot or the weather is damp.
This unit is manufactured with the highest grade lamination materials and is measured at 3.1 ohms, with a 300 mm HT lead and 47 mm between the fixation holes so it bolts back into the original mounting position. Fitting is a plug-and-play job once one step is completed: unscrew the spark plug cap from your OEM external ignition coil and screw that same cap onto the new coil. If your model does not use the yellow wire, it is simply removed. No other modification to the loom or bracketry is required. All units are tested before shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit without modification?
Yes. The fixation holes are 47 mm apart to match the original mounting point and the wiring connects as standard, so no cutting or drilling is needed. The only preparation is transferring your existing spark plug cap across, and removing the yellow wire if your model does not use it.
What is included, and do I need to reuse anything?
The external ignition coil itself is supplied. You reuse your original spark plug cap: unscrew it from the old coil and screw it onto the new one before fitting. Keep the old cap to hand until the job is finished.
How can I tell my ignition coil has failed?
Common symptoms are hard starting, a weak or intermittent spark, misfiring, cutting out at higher revs and stumbling under load, often getting worse as the engine heats up or in wet weather. A coil can also be checked with a multimeter - this unit reads 3.1 ohms, so a reading far from the figure specified for your original coil points to a fault.
What is the yellow wire for?
The coil is built to cover several different machines, and not every one of them uses that connection. If your original coil has no equivalent wire, the yellow lead is simply removed during fitting - it is not needed and leaving it disconnected is not a fault.
