This is a brand new aftermarket generator stator for the 1989 Honda PC 800 Pacific Coast. It replaces Honda part numbers 31120-MR5-015 and 31120-MR5-005. Once the original grommet has been refitted and the supplied connector attached, it is a plug-and-play unit, a direct fit, and very easy to install.
The stator is the fixed winding inside the alternator: as the rotor spins around it, the eighteen poles generate the alternating current the regulator rectifier converts to DC to charge the battery and run the lights and ignition. This unit uses the highest grade lamination materials and the highest grade copper windings, rated to 200 degrees Celsius. The opposite connector, the one on the main harness side, is supplied as well, because on a machine of this age that connector is very often melted, corroded or defective by the time the stator itself gives up. Every unit is tested before it is shipped.

Does this stator need any modification to fit?
No modification to the bike is needed. The only assembly step is refitting your original grommet and attaching the new connector supplied in the box. Once that is done it is a plug-and-play unit, a direct fit and very easy to install.
What is included in the box?
The generator stator, the connector, and the opposite connector from the main harness side. Your original grommet is reused, so do not discard it when the old stator comes out.
How do I tell whether my old stator has failed?
With the engine off and the stator unplugged, measure between the yellow wires: you should read 0.6 ohms plus or minus 20 percent. Then measure from any yellow wire to the stator body, which should read O.L, that is open circuit with no continuity. Continuity to ground means a winding has shorted to the core. A battery that will not stay charged and dimming lights at speed are the usual symptoms.
Why is a second connector supplied?
The connector on the main harness side is frequently found melted, corroded or defective on these bikes. Fitting a new stator into a burnt connector is what causes a repeat failure, so the opposite connector is included to let the whole joint be renewed at the same time.
