This is a brand new aftermarket generator stator for the Kawasaki Jet Ski 900 and 1100 ZXi and STX models, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit. It is plug-and-play and direct fit, so no drilling, cutting or alteration to the wiring harness is needed. The pick-up pulsar coil is supplied with it, and the assembly carries eight wires to two plugs - the charging output, the ignition trigger and the source coils are all renewed together.
A personal watercraft stator lives in a hot, damp, vibration-heavy environment, which is why the winding here uses the highest grade of lamination material and copper rated to 200 degrees Celsius. The long 1650 mm run from the grommet to the plug matches the factory routing through the hull, and the connector and rubber grommet are supplied so the harness can be sealed correctly against water ingress on reassembly. Does this stator need any modification to fit?
No. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit replacement for the original unit. The mounting dimensions, the wire lengths and both connectors follow the factory part, so no drilling, cutting or rewiring is required.
What is included?
The stator with its pick-up pulsar coil, the connector and the rubber grommet, so the harness can be plugged in and sealed exactly as it was originally.
How can I tell that the old stator has failed?
Hard starting, no spark, a flat battery, or an engine that dies after a few minutes on the water all point at the stator. Check it with a meter against the figures above: about 1.2 ohms brown to brown on the alternator, about 485 ohms green to blue on the pick-up, about 439 ohms red to black/red and about 30 ohms yellow to black on the source coils. A reading far outside any of those, or continuity from an output wire to the stator body, means the winding has broken down.
Why does this stator carry so many wires?
Because on this engine one assembly does three jobs. Two brown wires feed the charging circuit, the green and blue pair form the pick-up that triggers the ignition, and the remaining source coil windings supply the ignition system itself - eight wires into two plugs in total. All of them are renewed when the unit is replaced.
