This is a brand new aftermarket external ignition coil, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit and complete with the spark plug cap already fitted to its lead. Does it fit without modification?

Is the spark plug cap included?
Yes. The coil is supplied with the spark plug cap already fitted to its 450 mm lead, so you do not need to transfer the old cap across.
How do I know my original coil has failed?
Typical signs are a weak or intermittent spark, hard starting, misfiring and hesitation that gets worse when the engine is hot, or a machine that cuts out and then restarts once it cools. Measure the primary and secondary windings with a multimeter - the replacement reads 0.6 ohms primary and 5.6 k ohms secondary, with 0.8 ohms at the cap, so a reading far outside those figures on your existing coil points to a failure.
Should I test the cap separately?
It is worth doing. The cap contains its own resistance, quoted here at 0.8 ohms, and a cracked or corroded cap can cause a misfire while the coil itself is still healthy. Since this part is supplied as a coil and cap together, both are renewed in one go.
