This is a brand new aftermarket ignition stick coil, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to a wide range of BMW motorcycles built between 2005 and 2016. On these models BMW combines the spark plug cap and the ignition coil into a single assembly in order to reduce the number of parts used and improve efficiency. The trade-off is that once the coil deteriorates the complete cap and coil unit has to be renewed rather than just a lead or a cap. This replacement restores that function at a fraction of the dealer cost, and the manufacturer states the quality exceeds the OEM equipment.
Fitting is straightforward and requires no modification to the loom or the cylinder head. The old cap coil is withdrawn from the plug well and the new one drops straight into place, sealing on its 38 mm seal. The tube measures 9 mm internally and the body is 155 mm long, so it reaches the plug in the deep recesses used on the F and K series heads. One cap coil is included per unit, so order one for each cylinder you intend to replace. Every unit is tested before it is shipped.
