A DVA adaptor is also known as a peak reading adaptor. Small engine ignition systems use permanent magnets to make electricity, and that electricity travels down the wires very quickly and in spikes. What a DVA does is capture those spikes and allow a standard digital multimeter to read those voltages. Without a DVA adaptor a multimeter will either record a low voltage or no voltage at all, because multimeters read average voltages rather than peak. Powersport ignition systems work on peak voltages, which is exactly why a DVA is known as a peak reading adaptor and why it is the tool needed to test a stator, a pickup coil, a CDI box or an ignition coil properly. What is included in the kit?

Why can I not just use an ordinary multimeter?
Because an ordinary multimeter reads average voltage, not peak. Ignition output arrives as very short, very fast spikes, so a standard meter will show a low reading or nothing at all even when the component is working. The DVA adapter captures those spikes so the meter can display them.
What can I test with it?
The peak reading adapter is intended for powersport ignition circuits that generate their electricity from permanent magnets - stators, pickup and pulsar coils, CDI boxes and ignition coils. The multimeter on its own covers ordinary workshop tasks such as battery voltage, charging voltage, continuity checks and resistance measurements.
Does it need a specific model of meter?
