Flywheel failure is a well known problem on these Aprilia models, and the cause is the low quality epoxy used to hold the magnets in the original unit. Once that epoxy begins to break down the magnets shift or shed material inside the cover, and the damage rarely stops at the flywheel itself.
This Kokusan improved flywheel is a direct replacement built to fix the underlying design issue rather than repeat it. It uses lower strength magnets, which deliberately reduces stator output and, with it, the heat the charging system generates. The result is a charging output matched to what the motorcycle's electronics actually need, and a stator that is no longer being cooked by surplus current. If your original stator has already been damaged, fit a new stator at the same time - replacing one without the other is the most common reason a repair does not last.

What is included?
One Kokusan improved flywheel. A crankcase cover gasket, stator, regulator and flywheel puller are not supplied with this item and should be ordered separately if required.
How do I know my original flywheel has failed?
The usual sign is epoxy breaking down around the magnets - flaking, cracking or debris inside the crankcase cover. A magnet that has moved out of position will often leave witness marks on the stator. Charging faults that return shortly after a new stator has been fitted also point to the flywheel rather than the stator.
Will weaker magnets leave the bike undercharged?
No. The original magnets were stronger than the motorcycle required, and the excess output was simply turned into heat. The lower strength magnets used here bring the charging output to a level matched to the bike's electronic needs while keeping the stator cooler.
