This is a brand new high output stator and heavy duty regulator rectifier kit for the Yamaha YFZ 450, supplied under part number RM22430. It is a DC conversion kit: the stator produces 140 W and the lighting is reconfigured to run off the battery rather than directly off the alternator, which gives steady light output instead of brightness that rises and falls with engine speed. It is a direct replacement that fits plug-and-play.
The stator is wound with the highest grade copper on the highest grade lamination materials and is rated to withstand 200 degrees Celsius. The heavy duty regulator rectifier is built to a standard beyond the original equipment part, with an improved heat sink, higher grade electrical components and better charging capability. How do I know the old stator or regulator has failed?
Common symptoms are a battery that will not hold charge, lights that dim badly at low revs, or a machine that will not start or cuts out. Test resistance at the plug: the alternator windings should read about 0.4 ohms white to yellow and the pickup about 275 ohms white to red, both within 20 per cent. Also inspect the harness side plug, since melted or corroded connectors are a frequent cause of charging faults on this model and are the reason a replacement harness side connector is supplied in the kit.
What does the DC conversion actually change?
On the standard AC arrangement the lighting is fed directly from the alternator, so brightness tracks engine speed. This kit reconfigures the lighting to run from the battery instead, giving consistent output, and the 140 W stator provides the extra capacity needed to support that load along with any accessories you have added.
