This is a brand new aftermarket MAP sensor, supplied as a direct replacement to your original unit. A T-MAP sensor is a combined temperature and manifold absolute pressure sensor: it reads both the pressure inside the intake tract and the temperature of the air passing through it, and reports both back to the ECU on a single 4-terminal plug. The ECU uses those two readings together to work out exactly how much air the engine is actually drawing in, and therefore how much fuel to inject and how far to advance the ignition. It is a small part with a large influence on how the machine runs.
Because the T-MAP feeds the fuelling calculation directly, a drifting or failed sensor rarely stops the engine outright - it makes it run badly. Poor throttle response, hesitation off idle, rough or hunting idle, black smoke, heavy fuel consumption and stored engine fault codes are all typical of a sensor that has become contaminated or has lost calibration. This unit is plug-and-play and direct fit, measuring 56 mm long by 28 mm wide by 14 mm high with a single plug and 4 terminals. Will this fit without modification?
Yes. It is plug-and-play and direct fit on the applications it covers, using the same single 4-terminal plug and the same 56 x 28 x 14 mm body as the original. It goes back into the factory port in the intake and connects to the standard loom, with no adapters, cutting or rewiring.
What is included?
You receive the T-MAP sensor itself, ready to fit. Reuse the O-ring seat, retaining screw and loom connector already on your machine, and check the O-ring for hardening or splits while the sensor is out.
How do I know my T-MAP sensor has failed?
A failing T-MAP usually shows itself in how the engine runs rather than by stopping it. Watch for hesitation or a flat spot as you open the throttle, a rough or hunting idle, hard starting when hot or cold, black smoke and noticeably worse fuel consumption, and engine fault codes stored against the intake pressure or intake air temperature circuits. Contamination from oil mist or fuel vapour is a common cause, so inspect the sensor tip when you remove it.
Why does one sensor cover four different makes?
Polaris on one side and the BRP brands - Can-Am, Ski-Doo and Sea-Doo - on the other use the same T-MAP sensor pattern across a wide spread of engines, which is why the cross reference carries both the Polaris 24xxxxx numbers and the BRP 7070xxxxx and 420874650 numbers. Fitment is ride specific, so read the number printed on the sensor currently fitted and match it against the table above before ordering.
