Mosfet Voltage Regulator for Harley-Davidson Touring Models
Electra Glide, Road Glide, Road King and Street Glide 1450 and 1584 - 2006-2008
A brand new Mosfet voltage rectifier regulator, part number RM30339, built as a direct replacement for the OEM diode style regulator fitted to the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, Road Glide, Road King and Street Glide in 1450 and 1584 form between 2006 and 2008. Installation is plug and play, with an improved heat sink and higher grade electrical components than the part it replaces.
The advantage of Mosfet switching is straightforward. A conventional diode regulator gets rid of the charging current the bike does not need by turning it into heat, which is why factory units run so hot and why a failing regulator so often takes the stator with it. A Mosfet unit switches the surplus away instead of burning it off, so it runs cooler, holds a more stable output voltage and puts less thermal stress on the rest of the charging system. This regulator also carries overheat protection - if it is pushed beyond its thermal limit it shuts off temporarily and recovers, rather than burning out permanently.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need any modification to fit?
No. On the touring models listed above it is a plug and play replacement for the OEM diode style regulator. Before ordering, check the 155 mm centre to centre mounting hole spacing and the 180 mm by 42 mm by 105 mm body size against the unit you are removing.
What is included?
The Mosfet regulator unit itself, with two plugs, five pins and five wires as listed in the specification table. Compare the plugs against your existing harness connectors before fitting.
How do I know the old regulator is the problem?
Measure battery voltage with the engine running and warm. Around 14 to 14.5 volts is healthy. If the reading sits at battery voltage the unit is not charging; if it climbs well past 15 volts the regulator has lost control and is overcharging, which cooks the battery and blows bulbs. Check the stator output and the earth connections at the same time so you are not replacing a good part because of a fault elsewhere.
What does the overheat protection actually do?
If the unit exceeds its thermal limit it shuts itself off temporarily and then resumes once it has cooled, instead of failing permanently the way a diode regulator does. Combined with the improved heat sink and the -20 C to 85 C operating range, that is what keeps this unit alive in the heat of a touring frame.
