Mosfet Regulator for Harley Davidson Sportster XL XLH 883 and 1200
Harley Davidson Sportster XL and XLH 883 and 1200, 1992-1993 - OEM 74523-92A
A brand new Mosfet voltage rectifier regulator for the 1992 and 1993 Sportster, built to put an end to the repeat regulator failures these machines are known for. It is time to update or replace your voltage regulator with the advanced MOSFET type, which runs cooler than all OEM diode style regulators. Less heat in the unit means less thermal stress on the regulator itself and on the stator supplying it, which is the root of most repeat charging faults on an air-cooled twin.
This rectifier also has overheat protection. Rather than burn up, it will simply switch off for a while and cool down, then resume. Fitting is plug-and-play and a direct fit to your original unit, with an improved heat sink, improved charging capabilities and a higher grade of electric components. The quality exceeds the OEM equipment and all shipped products are tested. The item pictures are accurate, so if you are in any doubt compare the item against your original part before ordering. The part reference is RMS020-102584.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does fitting it require modification?
No. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit replacement for the original unit, mounting on the standard 81 mm hole centres with three wires across two plugs. The long 1300 mm lead reaches the battery in the usual way.
What does the overheat protection actually do?
Instead of burning up when it gets too hot, the unit simply turns off for a while and cools off, then resumes charging. That behaviour is what separates it from an OEM diode style regulator, which has no way to protect itself and fails permanently.
How do I know my old regulator has failed?
With the engine running the battery should see at least 14.5 V. If the reading stays at battery voltage the unit is not charging, and if it climbs past 15 V it is overcharging and will cook the battery. A regulator that is hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch after a short ride, or one with discoloured terminals, is on its way out.
How big is the unit?
It measures 94 mm long, 68 mm wide and 35 mm high, with the fixation holes 81 mm apart centre to centre. The two wire runs are 1300 mm and 240 mm.
