Mosfet Regulator for Indian Chief, Chieftain & Roadmaster
Chief Classic and Vintage, Chieftain Dark Horse, Roadmaster and Springfield 2014-2026
This is a brand new Mosfet voltage rectifier regulator for the Indian Chief Classic and Vintage, Chieftain and Chieftain Dark Horse, Roadmaster and Springfield. It is designed to replace the OEM diode-style regulator fitted to these machines. The body measures 112 mm long by 108 mm wide by 51 mm deep, the mounting holes are 82 mm apart centre to centre, and the unit carries two plugs with five pins and five wires on a 270 mm lead. Installation is plug-and-play.
The difference between a Mosfet regulator and the original diode type is how the surplus is handled. A Mosfet unit switches rather than shunting the excess to earth as heat, so it runs noticeably cooler, and it carries overheat protection that shuts the unit down temporarily instead of allowing it to burn up. RMSTATOR also specify an improved heat sink and a higher grade of components than the original. In practice that means less parasitic load on the engine, more optimised power delivery, and a battery that is charged properly rather than cooked - all of which extend battery life on a heavy tourer that spends time at idle with lights, heated grips and audio drawing current.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does fitting a Mosfet regulator require any modification?
No. It is a plug-and-play replacement for the OEM diode-style regulator. The two plugs, the five wires on a 270 mm lead and the 82 mm mounting hole spacing match the original, so no cutting, splicing or rewiring is needed.
What is the advantage over the original diode regulator?
A Mosfet unit switches the charging output rather than dumping the surplus to earth as heat, so it runs cooler and puts less parasitic load on the engine. RMSTATOR list the benefits as fuel savings, extended battery life, more engine power and optimised power delivery, along with overheat protection that shuts the unit down temporarily instead of letting it burn out.
How do I tell that the old regulator has failed?
Read the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running and compare it against the regulated 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V in the specification table. A reading stuck at resting battery voltage means the unit has stopped charging; a reading above 15 V means it has stopped regulating and is overcharging. Batteries that will not hold charge, blown bulbs and a regulator casing that is extremely hot are the common signs.
Which Indian part numbers does it replace?
It cross references to Indian 4019661, 4017919 and 4014300. This is a ride-specific part, so check the number on your original unit against those three before ordering.
