An advanced MOSFET voltage rectifier regulator designed as a direct replacement for the OEM unit fitted to the 2005 to 2007 Victory cruiser range. MOSFET switching is considerably more efficient than the diode-style regulation used in the original part, so the unit runs cooler in normal service. That matters on a big v-twin cruiser, where the regulator often lives in a tight, poorly ventilated spot and heat soak is the usual cause of premature failure.
Alongside the cooler running, this regulator has thermal shutdown built in. How do I know the original regulator has failed?
Check the voltage across the battery with the engine running. It should sit at roughly 14.5 V. A reading stuck at resting battery voltage means the unit is not charging, and a reading above 15 V means it is overcharging and will boil the battery. A regulator that is scorched, smells burnt, or has melted connector pins has already failed.
