RMSTATOR states that it runs cooler than all OEM diode style regulators. Since heat is the usual reason these units fail, that lower running temperature is the practical benefit rather than a specification on paper.
The regulator carries overheat protection, so if it is pushed too hard it shuts off temporarily rather than burning out. It is a plug-and-play fit using the original 155 mm centre-to-centre mounting, with a 240 mm wire length and three plugs carrying four wires. How do I tell whether my old regulator has failed?
Run the engine and measure across the battery terminals. A working charging system should reach at least 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V. What happens if it gets too hot?
