MOSFET Regulator Rectifier for Honda VTX 1300

Honda VTX 1300 C / R / S / T - 2003-2009 - Part number RMS020-102332

This is a brand new aftermarket MOSFET voltage rectifier regulator, built as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to the Honda VTX 1300 C, VTX 1300 R, VTX 1300 S and VTX 1300 T. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit part, so the original wiring harness does not need to be cut, spliced or modified in any way. The regulator rectifier is the component that converts the alternating current produced by the stator into direct current and then holds that output at a steady voltage, so that the battery is charged properly and the rest of the electrical system is protected from over-voltage.

MOSFET technology is what separates this unit from the older SCR style regulators. It runs cooler and wastes far less energy as heat, and this particular unit carries built-in overheat protection - rather than burn up, it will simply turn off for a while and cool off before resuming normal operation. An improved heat sink design and higher grade electrical components are used throughout. Because melted and corroded connectors are one of the most common causes of repeat charging failures, the opposite connector - the main harness side plug - is supplied in the box, so the connection can be renewed at the same time as the regulator itself.

Key Features

  • Direct plug-and-play replacement for the original unit - no cutting or splicing of the loom
  • MOSFET design runs cooler and more efficiently than the original SCR type regulator
  • Overheat protection - the unit switches off and cools down instead of burning out
  • Improved heat sink design for better dissipation of waste heat
  • Built with higher grade electrical components than the original
  • Opposite connector (main harness side) supplied to replace a melted or corroded plug
  • Rated to 50 A / 500 W maximum charging current

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit without modification?

Yes. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit replacement for the original regulator rectifier, using the same mounting pattern and the same connector arrangement. Before ordering, compare your original unit against the figures listed above - 90 mm by 90 mm by 30 mm, 75 mm between the mounting hole centres, two plugs carrying seven pins and seven wires, with 600 mm of wire.

What is included?

You receive the MOSFET regulator rectifier and the opposite connector - the main harness side plug. That second connector is included so that a plug which has already melted or corroded can be replaced at the same time, rather than left in place to cause the same failure again.

How can I tell my regulator rectifier has failed?

Measure the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running. A working system on this machine should hold around 14.5 V, plus or minus 0.5 V. A reading well below that figure means the battery is not being charged and will eventually go flat, while a reading above the 15 V open circuit limit means the unit is no longer regulating and the battery is being over-charged. Discoloured or melted connector housings and a regulator body that has clearly been cooking are further common signs.

Why choose a MOSFET unit over the original type?

A MOSFET regulator switches more efficiently than the older SCR type, so less of the stator output is thrown away as heat. Combined with the improved heat sink on this unit, that means lower running temperatures and a longer service life. It also carries overheat protection: if it does reach its limit it shuts down and cools rather than destroying itself, and it is rated for continuous operation between -20 C and 85 C.
