This is a brand new pick-up pulsar coil, also called a trigger or pulse coil, supplied as a stator repair part for the Can-Am Traxter family of 500 and 650 cc machines. The pick-up coil is the small sensor that reads the trigger on the flywheel and tells the ignition when to fire. When it drifts out of specification or goes open circuit the machine will crank but refuse to fire, or will run and then cut without warning.
The coil is a nominal 250 ohm unit with two wires 225 mm long, and the measured resistance between the blue and white wires is 245 ohms plus or minus 20 per cent. This is a repair component rather than a complete assembly: the two wires are soldered into the OEM harness and insulated with heat shrink, and the original fixing bracket has to be transferred from the old coil because a bracket is not supplied. If you would rather not solder, a complete stator assembly is the alternative route.

Is this a plug-in part or does it need soldering?
It needs soldering. The two 225 mm wires are joined into the OEM harness and the joints are insulated with heat shrink. No modification to the engine or the mounting position is required, but you will need a soldering iron and heat shrink sleeving to finish the job properly.
What is included in the box?
You receive the pick-up pulsar coil itself. The fixing bracket is not included, so the bracket from your original coil must be transferred to the new one.
How do I know my old pick-up coil has failed?
The classic symptom is a machine that cranks strongly but will not fire at all, with no spark at the plug. Intermittent faults are also common: the engine runs, then dies, and restarts once it has cooled. Measure across the blue and white wires with a multimeter - a healthy coil reads around 245 ohms, and a reading of infinity or near zero means the winding has failed.
Do I have to replace the whole stator?
Not necessarily. This part exists so that a failed pick-up coil can be replaced on its own rather than scrapping a stator whose charging windings are still good. If the charging coils have also failed, a full stator assembly is the better repair.
