How do I tell my old regulator has failed?
With the engine running, battery voltage should be pulled up towards 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V. If it stays at resting voltage the machine is not charging and will eventually not start; if it rises above 15 V the regulator is overcharging, which will ruin the battery and blow bulbs. On small machines like these a flat battery every few rides is the usual first symptom.
