The RM30017 is a brand new voltage regulator rectifier for the 1986-1998 Ducati range, covering the 916, the Monster 900 and the SuperSport 750 and 900, as well as the Laverda Ghost 650. This regulator is used on many various Ducati models of the period. It is a direct replacement for the original unit - plug-and-play, direct fit, with no assembly required. The quality exceeds the OEM equipment, the heat sink and charging capabilities are improved on the original, and a higher grade of electrical component is used throughout.
The unit is rated at a maximum charging current of 50 A / 500 W with a minimum charging voltage of 14.5 V plus or minus 0.5 V, open circuit voltage held below 15 V, and an operating range of -20 C to 85 C. It measures 103 mm wide by 68 mm long by 37 mm high, mounts on 90 mm hole centres, and carries six pins on six wires of 280 mm. The wiring is colour coded in the usual way for this application: the yellow wires are the stator AC input, the red wire is battery positive, the black wire is the keyswitch 12 V feed, and the white wire drives the charge warning indicator light on the dash. What do the wire colours do?
The yellow wires carry the AC input from the stator. The red wire is battery positive. The black wire is the keyswitch 12 V feed. The white wire drives the charge warning indicator light on the dash. That white wire is why this unit can restore a dash warning lamp that stopped working when the original regulator failed.

How do I know my old regulator has failed?
With the engine running, measure across the battery terminals. A healthy system should reach a minimum charging voltage of 14.5 V plus or minus 0.5 V and hold below roughly 15 V. A reading stuck at resting battery voltage points to a failed rectifier section; a reading well above 15 V points to failed regulation and will destroy the battery. On these models the charge warning light on the dash, fed by the white wire, is often the first thing to give the fault away.
