Voltage Regulator Rectifier RM30701 for Honda GL 1200 Goldwing LTD and SEI
Honda GL 1200 Goldwing LTD / SEI - 1985 and 1986
Part RM30701 is a brand new voltage regulator rectifier built as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to the Honda GL 1200 Goldwing LTD and SEI of 1985 and 1986. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit: two plugs carrying eight pins and eight wires match the factory layout, and the fixation holes are 75 mm centre to centre so the unit bolts onto the standard mounting point without modification or assembly.
The GL 1200 LTD and SEI carried a heavy electrical load for their era, with fuel injection, on-board computer, air suspension and full audio all drawing from the same charging circuit. That makes the regulator rectifier a particularly hard-worked component on these two model years, and a common source of charging complaints as the bikes age. This replacement converts the alternator output to direct current and holds it at a controlled level, protecting both the battery and the electronics downstream of it.
RMSTATOR build the unit with higher grade electrical components and an improved heat sink, giving better heat dissipation and charging capability than the original specification, and state that the quality exceeds the OEM equipment. All products are tested before shipment. An additional connector for the main harness side is supplied with the unit, because these connectors are frequently found melted, corroded or defective and are a recurring cause of electrical faults that survive a regulator change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit without modification?
Yes. RM30701 is a direct fit, plug-and-play replacement for the GL 1200 Goldwing LTD and SEI of 1985 and 1986. The two plugs, eight pins and eight wires match the original and the mounting holes are 75 mm centre to centre. No assembly or loom modification is required.
What is included?
The voltage regulator rectifier unit plus two connectors - one for the stator side and one for the main harness side. The harness side connector is supplied because the original is so often melted, corroded or defective on these bikes.
How do I tell whether the old regulator has failed?
Measure across the battery terminals with the engine running. A working charging system should reach at least 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V. If the voltage does not climb above resting battery level the unit has stopped charging; if it exceeds roughly 15 V the regulation stage has failed and the battery is being overcharged. On a GL 1200 that overcharge condition can also show up as bulbs failing repeatedly.
Is this the eight wire version?
Yes. RM30701 has two plugs, eight pins and eight wires, with lead lengths of 170 mm and 300 mm. Check that against your original before ordering, and compare the Honda part numbers 31600-MG9-951 and 31600-ML8-305 with the number on the unit you are removing.
