Voltage Regulator Rectifier 50A - RM30102

Honda Magna VF 700 C and Shadow VT 700 C / VT 800 C - 1985-1988

The RM30102 is a brand new voltage regulator rectifier for the mid-1980s Honda V-twin and V-four cruisers, covering the Magna VF 700 C and the Shadow VT 700 C and VT 800 C from 1985 to 1988. It is a direct replacement for the original unit - plug-and-play, direct fit and easy to install, with no assembly required. The quality exceeds the OEM equipment, the heat sink and charging capabilities are improved on the original design, and a higher grade of electrical component is used throughout.

This is an eight-wire unit with two plugs and eight pins, supplied with two different wire lengths of 700 mm and 480 mm to reach the harness connectors in their factory positions. The body measures 80 mm wide by 108 mm long by 28 mm high, with 75 mm between the fixation hole centres. It is rated at a maximum charging current of 50 A / 500 W, a minimum charging voltage of 14.5 V plus or minus 0.5 V, an open circuit voltage below 15 V and an operating range of -20 C to 85 C. RMSTATOR also include the opposite connector for the main harness side, because the original plugs on machines of this age are commonly corroded or burnt and leaving a damaged one in place is a frequent cause of repeat faults.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this fit without modification?

Yes. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit replacement for the original with no assembly required. The mounting holes are 75 mm apart centre to centre and the unit carries two plugs with eight pins, so those details are the quickest way to confirm the match against the part currently on the bike.

What is included?

The voltage regulator rectifier plus the opposite connector for the main harness side. That extra connector is supplied because on machines of this age the harness plug is very often melted, corroded or defective, and a poor connection there will cause the same charging fault to come back.

How do I know my old regulator has failed?

Measure the voltage across the battery with the engine running. A working system should reach a minimum charging voltage of 14.5 V plus or minus 0.5 V and stay below roughly 15 V. If the reading sits at resting battery voltage the unit has stopped charging; if it climbs well past 15 V the regulation has failed and the battery is being overcharged. Browned or melted connector housings are a strong supporting clue.

Why does it have two different wire lengths?

The eight wires are split between a 700 mm run and a 480 mm run so that both harness connectors reach their factory positions on these models without the loom being stretched or re-routed. That keeps the installation genuinely plug-and-play rather than requiring extensions.
