This is a brand new aftermarket voltage regulator rectifier, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit on the Suzuki DR 650, GS 500 and GSF 400 Bandit. It does two jobs in one housing. The rectifier converts the alternating current made by the stator into direct current for the battery and the rest of the electrical system, and the regulator holds that output at a controlled level so the battery is charged fully but never overcharged. Installation is plug and play, a direct fit with no assembly required.
The unit is compact at 75 mm long by 50 mm wide by 25 mm high, with 60 mm centre to centre between the fixation holes and 200 mm of wire. It carries two plugs, five pins and five wires, and is rated to a maximum charging current of 25 A or 300 W. Higher grade electric components, an improved heat sink and better charging capability mean the quality exceeds the OEM equipment, and all products shipped are tested. An opposite connector for the main harness side is supplied with the part, because that connector frequently melts or corrodes and is itself a common cause of repeat charging faults. What is included?

How do I know my old regulator rectifier has failed?
Measure across the battery terminals with the engine running. Around 14.5 V is correct. A reading that never rises above resting battery voltage means it has stopped charging; a reading above 15 V means it is overcharging, which boils the battery and blows bulbs. Repeatedly flat batteries, lights that dim or flare with revs, and a scorched or blistered regulator body are all typical.
Why is a harness connector supplied with the unit?
The regulator connector carries the full charging current, and on these bikes the harness side is often found melted or corroded. A damaged connector will overheat and take out a new regulator, so replacing both sides at once is the durable repair.
