Voltage Regulator Rectifier for Yamaha FJ, FZ, YX, XJ and XS Models
FJ, FZ and YX 600, XJ 550 650 700 750 900, XS 400 and 650 - 1978-1988
This is a brand new aftermarket voltage regulator rectifier for 1978-1988 Yamaha FJ, FZ and YX 600, XJ 550, 650, 700, 750 and 900, and XS 400 and 650 models. It is a direct replacement for the original unit, plug-and-play and direct fit, so no assembly, cutting or rewiring is needed. Part number RM30383 replaces Yamaha OEM 12R-81960-A1-00 and the related numbers listed in the cross reference table below.
The regulator rectifier converts the alternating current the stator produces into the direct current the battery and the rest of the bike need, and sheds the surplus the machine is not using. This unit is built from a higher grade of electric components than the original, holds a minimum charging voltage of 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V and will handle up to 50 A / 500 W. It measures 80 mm by 65 mm by 30 mm, its fixing holes are 68 mm centre to centre, and it carries a single 7-pin plug on 230 mm of wire. The opposite connector for the main harness side is supplied as well, because on bikes of this age that plug is very often melted, corroded or otherwise past its best and is a common cause of repeat electrical faults. Every unit is tested before it is shipped.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it fit without modification?
Yes. It is a direct, plug-and-play replacement with 68 mm fixing hole centres and the original 7-pin plug, so nothing has to be cut, drilled or rewired. Check your model against the fitment table and compare the number on your existing unit with the cross reference list before ordering.
What is included?
One brand new regulator rectifier, part number RM30383, with its 7-pin plug on 230 mm of wire, plus the matching connector for the main harness side. That second connector is included deliberately: on bikes of this age the harness plug is frequently melted or corroded and replacing only the regulator often leaves the fault in place.
How do I know the old regulator has failed?
With the engine running, measure across the battery terminals. A working system holds about 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V. If the voltage stays down at resting battery level the unit is not charging; if it climbs well past 15 V it is overcharging and will cook the battery. Check the harness connector for melting at the same time.
What output will it support?
The unit is rated to a maximum charging current of 50 A / 500 W with an open circuit voltage below 15 V, and it is designed to run between -20 C and 85 C. That is comfortably above the demand of the original charging systems on these models.
