This is a brand new improved AC voltage regulator rectifier, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to Yamaha GP, XL, XLT 1200 and XR 1800 machines built between 1999 and 2005. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, mounting on the original 55 mm centre to centre fixings and connecting through the original single four-pin plug, so no assembly and no wiring changes are required.
The regulator carries an improved heat sink and improved charging capabilities over the original design, and is built with a higher grade of electric components, so the quality exceeds the OEM equipment it replaces. It is rated to a maximum charging current of 50 A or 500 W and holds a minimum charging voltage of 14.5 V plus or minus 0.5 V, with the open circuit voltage kept under 15 V. All products shipped are tested. It replaces Yamaha part 66V-81960-00-00.

How do I tell whether my old regulator has failed?

Readings below that leave the battery flat after a short run; readings above it cook the battery and blow bulbs. Either result points to the regulator rather than the stator.
