Voltage Regulator Rectifier RM30406 for Yamaha Royal Star 1300, TDM 850 and XV 250 Virago

Yamaha Royal Star 1300 / TDM 850 / XV 250 Virago - 1993 to 2001

Part RM30406 is a brand new voltage regulator rectifier built as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to the Yamaha Royal Star 1300, TDM 850 and XV 250 Virago. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit component that requires no assembly and no modification to the loom - the original mounting points and connectors are retained, so the unit goes straight back where the factory item came out.

The regulator rectifier is the part of the charging system that converts the alternating current produced by the stator into direct current and holds the output at a safe, stable voltage for the battery and the rest of the electrical system. This replacement uses a higher grade of electric components and an improved heat sink for better heat dissipation and charging capability, and the manufacturer states that the quality exceeds the OEM equipment. Every unit is tested before it is shipped.

The unit is supplied with the opposite connector - the main harness side - because these connectors are often found melted, corroded or otherwise defective and are a major cause of repeat electrical faults. Fitting the fresh connector at the same time as the regulator removes the most common source of a recurring charging problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this regulator rectifier need any modification to fit?

No. RM30406 is a direct fit, plug-and-play replacement for the original unit. It uses the same two plugs with seven pins and seven wires, and the mounting holes are 72 mm apart to match the factory bracket. No assembly, cutting or splicing is required.

What is included?

You receive the voltage regulator rectifier itself together with the opposite connector for the main harness side. That harness side connector is included because the original is frequently melted, corroded or defective and is a common cause of repeat electrical issues.

How do I tell whether my old regulator rectifier has failed?

A healthy charging system should hold at least 14.5 V +/- 0.5 V at the battery with the engine running. Readings that stay well below that point to a unit that is no longer charging, while readings that climb above roughly 15 V point to a unit that has lost regulation and is overcharging the battery. Discoloured or melted connector housings on either side of the plug are another strong indicator.

How much output can this unit handle?

The maximum charging current is rated at 50 A, equivalent to 500 W, with an open circuit voltage below 15 V. It is designed to operate between -20 C and 85 C, and the improved heat sink helps it shed heat during sustained running.
