Voltage Regulator Rectifier for Yamaha Venture Royale 1200 and 1300
Yamaha Venture Royale 1200 XVZ12 and Venture Royale 1300, 1983-1993 - replaces 2WR-81960-A0-00 and 26H-81960-A0-00 - part number RMS020-104070
A full-dress tourer asks a great deal of its charging system. The Venture Royale runs a heavy electrical load - lights, instruments, audio, accessories - and every watt of it passes through the regulator rectifier, which converts the stator's alternating current into usable direct current and holds the output at a safe, steady voltage. These are forty-year-old machines now, and a tired original regulator is one of the most common electrical faults owners meet. The signs are familiar: a battery that will not survive being left for a week, headlights that surge and dim with engine speed, or an overcharging system that boils the battery dry and takes bulbs and electronics with it.
This is a brand new aftermarket voltage regulator rectifier supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit and for Yamaha part numbers 2WR-81960-A0-00 and 26H-81960-A0-00. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit with easy installation, built with a higher grade of electrical components and an improved heat sink and charging capability. The opposite connector - the plug on the main harness side - is included, because on machines of this age that connector is very often found melted, corroded or defective, and reusing a damaged one is the surest way to destroy a brand new regulator. The body measures 130 mm long by 65 mm wide by 30 mm high with two plugs, seven pins and seven wires.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit without modification?
Yes. This is a direct replacement for the original unit - plug-and-play, direct fit, easy installation. It has two plugs, seven pins and seven wires matching the standard arrangement, and the body measures 130 mm by 65 mm by 30 mm. Before ordering, confirm that the number on your existing regulator is 2WR-81960-A0-00 or 26H-81960-A0-00.
What comes in the box?
The RMS020-104070 voltage regulator rectifier and the opposite connector for the main harness side. On a bike built between 1983 and 1993 the harness-side plug is very often melted, corroded or defective, and fitting a new regulator into a damaged connector recreates the original fault - so replacing both together is the sensible approach.
How can I confirm the old unit has failed?
Put a multimeter across the battery terminals with the engine running. The reading should sit near 14.5 V, within about half a volt either way. Well under that and the system is undercharging, so the battery drains as you ride; over 15 V and it is overcharging, which boils the electrolyte and shortens the life of every bulb and electronic component on the bike. Headlights that brighten and fade with revs, and a battery that keeps needing a charger, are the classic symptoms.
Is it strong enough for a fully loaded tourer?
The unit is rated for up to 50 A / 500 W of maximum charging current, comfortably beyond what the Venture Royale's charging system produces, and it uses an improved heat sink with improved charging capability compared with the original design. That headroom is exactly what you want on a machine carrying a heavy standing electrical load.
