The starter relay solenoid is the high-current switch that connects the battery directly to the starter motor. The button on the handlebar only sends a small signal to the solenoid coil, which then closes a heavy internal contact and lets several hundred amps through for the second or two it takes to spin the engine. Those contacts take the worst of the electrical load on the machine, and once they pit or weld the quad will click, crank slowly or refuse to turn over at all.

Yes. How do I know my old solenoid has failed?
A dead solenoid usually gives you one sharp click and no engine rotation, or complete silence at the button while the lights and dash stay bright. Check the battery state of charge and the battery cable ends first, because a tired battery produces the same click.
