Brand new aftermarket speed sensor covering a broad span of the Suzuki range, from the Bandit 1200 and the GSR 600 through the GSX and GSXR models and the SFV 650 to the V-Strom 650 and 1000. The speed sensor reads the rotation of a toothed wheel in the gearbox or on the wheel and converts it into the pulse signal used by the speedometer, and on many models by the ECU as well. When it fails you usually get a speedometer that reads zero or flickers wildly, an odometer that stops counting, and on fuel-injected machines a warning light or a stored fault because the ECU has lost its road speed input.
This unit is a direct replacement for the original sensor. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, with the original three-terminal plug and a 285 mm lead, so it mounts in the original location and reconnects to the existing harness without cutting or splicing. Do I need to modify anything to fit it?
No. It is a direct, plug-and-play replacement using the original mounting and the original three-terminal plug, with the same 285 mm lead length, so no cutting or extending of the harness is needed.
What do I receive?
One brand new speed sensor with its 285 mm lead and connector, tested before dispatch, as shown in the photographs. Re-use the original bolt and O-ring from the sensor you remove.
How do I tell whether my speed sensor has failed?
The usual signs are a speedometer stuck at zero or jumping erratically, an odometer and trip meter that no longer advance, a speed related warning light, or on injected models a fault code for the vehicle speed signal. Check the connector for corrosion and the lead for chafing first, since a damaged lead or a wet plug produces the same symptoms as a dead sensor.
This part covers many models - how do I confirm it is right for mine?
Check the OEM number stamped or labelled on the sensor you are removing against the cross reference table above, and compare the body dimensions and the 10 x 13 mm spigot with the specifications listed. That is a more reliable check than model name alone, because Suzuki used more than one sensor across this period.
