This is a brand new aftermarket Hall effect speed sensor, built as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to the Polaris Ranger Crew 900, RZR 800, Scrambler 850 and Sportsman 500 and 570 from 2006 to 2025. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, and every unit shipped is tested before it leaves the warehouse.
A Hall effect sensor works by detecting the passing teeth of a rotating trigger and turning them into a clean square-wave pulse. On these Polaris machines that pulse train is what drives the speedometer and odometer and, on models that use road speed in their engine management, feeds the ECU as well. The sensor lives in a punishing spot - low down, in the mud and spray, taking constant vibration - and when it goes, the speedometer reads zero or jumps around, the odometer and trip meter stop counting, and a speed sensor fault can be stored.
