Delco 39MT Starter Motor 12V 12-Tooth PLGR
Cummins | Volvo | Paccar | Freightliner | Versatile - heavy duty truck and industrial diesels
A new 12-volt, 12-tooth PLGR starter motor from the Delco 39MT series, used across heavy duty truck and industrial diesel applications from Cummins, Volvo, Paccar, Freightliner and Versatile.
The 39MT is Delco's planetary gear reduction design for big-bore diesels: the gearset multiplies motor torque so a compact starter can turn a large engine, and the sealed construction stands up to road salt and washdowns on commercial vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 11-tooth and 12-tooth 39MT?
The pinion tooth count must match the flywheel ring gear. This is the 12-tooth version; we also stock the 11-tooth 39MT under part 410-12712. Count the teeth on your old starter before ordering.
What does PLGR mean?
Planetary Gear Reduction. An internal planetary gearset multiplies the motor's torque, letting a smaller, lighter starter crank a large diesel - the standard design on modern heavy duty applications.
My truck cranks slowly and the lights dim heavily - is the starter faulty?
Check the batteries and cables first: on 12V heavy duty systems, a bad earth strap or corroded terminal causes the same symptom. If voltage at the starter stud holds above 10V while cranking and it still turns slowly, the starter is drawing excess current and needs replacing.
Is the solenoid included?
Yes - supplied as a complete assembly with the solenoid fitted.
