Frequently Asked Questions
Will this starter motor fit without modification?
Yes, this is a direct OEM-fit replacement built to the original PG260M specification, so no modification is required for installation - the straight mounting flange, 4-terminal solenoid and 11-tooth drive gear match the original marine layout.
What's included?
You will receive one complete starter motor unit with mounting bolts and gasket. Your existing wiring loom connects directly to the 4-terminal solenoid.
How can I tell my old starter motor has failed?
Common signs include a clicking noise when starting, a slow or labouring crank, smoke or a burning smell from the starter, or no response at all when the key is turned.
What is a permanent magnet gear reduction starter?
A PMGR starter uses fixed magnets instead of field coils and drives the pinion through a reduction gearset. The result is a lighter, more compact unit that draws less current while producing the same cranking torque as the older direct drive design.
My engine isn't listed - will this still fit?
Compare the number on your existing starter against the Delco, Lucas or Lester numbers in the table above. This PG260M unit was used very widely across marine and industrial applications, so a matching number is the most reliable confirmation.
