This starter motor is a direct-fit replacement for Tecumseh OV691, TVT691 and VTX691 engines, built to the same mounting, output and mechanical specification as the original equipment unit so it bolts straight into place. It replaces Tecumseh part number 37284 and covers the 17.5HP OV691EA, the 24HP OV691EP and the 22HP TVT691, as well as the VTX691.
It runs on 12 volts, turns counter-clockwise (CCW) and uses a 10-tooth drive gear on a permanent-magnet direct-drive (PMDD) motor. The drive gear engages the flywheel ring gear only while cranking and retracts once the engine fires, so no adjustment is needed after fitting. Fitting is a straightforward like-for-like swap: disconnect the battery, remove the mounting bolts securing the original starter, transfer the wiring connector across, and bolt this unit into place in the same orientation.
