Starter Relay Solenoid for Arctic Cat and Yamaha
ZR M XF 9000, Riot 8000 and 9000, SX Venom 400, Transporter 800 · 2017-2024 · Part RMS090-106835
This is a brand new starter relay solenoid switch for Arctic Cat and Yamaha snowmobiles. The starter relay is the heavy duty switch that sits between the battery and the starter motor. When you press the start button only a small current passes through the handlebar switch and the safety circuits; that small current energises a coil inside the relay, which closes a pair of large internal contacts and lets the full battery current reach the starter motor. Without it, the thin wiring in the handlebar loom would have to carry the several hundred amps a cold starter draws.
Starter relays are a common wear item because those internal contacts arc every time the machine is started, and on a cold morning the current draw is at its highest. The contacts gradually pit and burn until they can no longer pass full current, which is why a failing relay usually produces a loud click and no cranking. This replacement is built to a quality that exceeds the original equipment, and every product is tested before it is shipped. Please note that for VLX and Alterra ATV models an alternative relay is used, part number RMS090-104890 - compare the item pictures against your original part if you are unsure which one your machine takes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit without modification?
Yes, on the models listed. It is a direct replacement with the same two terminals, single plug and 7 mm fixation hole spacing as the original. Compare the OEM number on your existing relay against the cross reference table first, because VLX and Alterra ATV models take the alternative relay RMS090-104890 instead.
What is included?
One brand new starter relay solenoid. Battery cables, mounting rubbers and fuses are not included, so re-use the ones from your original relay.
How do I know the old relay has failed?
The most common symptom is a single loud click from the relay when you press the start button while the starter motor does not turn, or turns only occasionally. Headlights that stay bright during the attempt point at the relay rather than a flat battery. A relay whose contacts have burned through will often work when the machine is warm and refuse when it is cold.
Which relay does my machine take?
This part, RMS090-106835, covers the Arctic Cat ZR, M and XF 9000, Riot 8000 and 9000, and the Yamaha SX Venom 400 and Transporter 800. If your machine is a VLX or an Alterra ATV, the correct relay is RMS090-104890. When in doubt, compare our item pictures with your original unit before ordering.
