Starter Relay Solenoid for Polaris Magnum, Sportsman and Ranger
Polaris Magnum, Sportsman 500, 500 Classic, Widetrak, Ranger 500 - 1985-2015 - OEM replacement 4011335 - Part number RM09011
This is a brand new starter relay solenoid switch, supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted across Polaris Magnum, Sportsman, Ranger, 500 Classic and Widetrak machines. The starter relay is the heavy duty switch that links the battery to the starter motor. Pressing the start button passes only a small current through the button and the loom; that current energises a coil inside the relay, which pulls a large set of internal contacts together and allows the full starting load to reach the motor. It is the component that lets a lightweight switch control a current of several hundred amps without burning out the wiring.
Those contacts take the full force of every start, so with age they pit and burn until they no longer make a reliable connection - which is what produces the familiar single click with no crank on an older machine. Working quads and utility vehicles are particularly hard on this part, because the solenoid lives in a position exposed to water, mud and pressure washing. This replacement is built to a standard that exceeds the original equipment and every unit is tested before it is shipped. It measures 49 mm long by 72 mm wide by 35 mm high with 56 mm between the fixation hole centres, so it mounts in the original location.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit without modification?
Yes. It is a direct replacement for the original solenoid, using the same 56 mm fixation hole centres and the same single wire, single terminal and single plug arrangement, so it mounts in the original position and connects to the existing cables. Check the number on your original unit against the five Polaris part numbers in the cross reference table before ordering.
What is included?
The starter relay solenoid switch itself. Battery and starter cables, mounting hardware and terminal nuts are carried over from your original installation. Where the old terminals have corroded - common on a machine that is washed down regularly - clean the cable eyes before refitting so the new solenoid starts with a clean, low resistance connection.
How do I know the old solenoid has failed?
The classic symptom is a single loud click when the start button is pressed with no movement from the starter motor, on a battery that has been tested and is known to be good. Other signs are a starter that engages only intermittently, one that continues turning after the button is released because the contacts have welded shut, or complete silence with full battery voltage present at the solenoid input terminal.
Does this fit both ATVs and snowmobiles?
Yes. The models this unit covers span both sides of the Polaris range - Magnum, Sportsman 500 and Ranger 500 on the ATV and utility side, and the 500 Classic and Widetrak on the snowmobile side. Polaris used the same solenoid design and the same 56 mm mounting pattern across those machines, which is why one part number covers both.
