Starter Relay Solenoid for Polaris Personal Watercraft
Hurricane, Pro, SL, SLT, SLTX, SLXH, SLX and Virage - 1994-2001
This is a brand new starter relay solenoid switch for 1994-2001 Polaris Hurricane, Pro, SL, SLT, SLTX, SLXH, SLX and Virage personal watercraft. It is a direct replacement for the original solenoid, so it fits the factory position and connects to the existing wiring without modification. Part number RMS090-101736 replaces Polaris OEM 3240204.
The starter relay solenoid is the heavy-duty switch that sits between the battery and the starter motor. Pressing the start button energises the relay coil, which pulls a set of high-current contacts together and lets the full battery current reach the starter. It is one of the hardest-worked electrical components on a ski: every start cycle passes several hundred amps through those contacts, and in the damp, salty environment a watercraft lives in they eventually pit, corrode and burn. This unit measures 59 mm high by 40 mm long by 40 mm wide, with two wires, one terminal and one plug. The quality exceeds the OEM equipment and every unit is tested before it is shipped.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it fit without modification?
Yes. It is a direct replacement with the same single terminal and single plug as the original, so it mounts in the factory location and connects to the existing harness with no cutting or splicing. Confirm OEM number 3240204 on the unit you are removing before ordering.
What is included?
One brand new starter relay solenoid switch, part number RMS090-101736, with its two wires and plug already fitted. Mounting hardware and battery cables are not supplied - reuse the originals, and clean the cable ends before refitting.
How do I tell whether the old solenoid has failed?
The classic symptom is a single loud click on pressing start with the engine not turning, on a ski whose battery is known good. Starting that only works after tapping the solenoid, or a starter that stays engaged after you release the button, point the same way. If there is full battery voltage on the input terminal but nothing appears on the output while the button is held, the solenoid has failed.
Why do these fail so often on a watercraft?
Every start passes a very large current through a small pair of contacts, and on a ski that happens in a damp, salt-laden engine bay. The contacts pit and corrode, resistance climbs, and eventually the relay can no longer pass enough current to crank. Keeping the terminals clean and the connections greased is the single best thing you can do to make the replacement last.
