The starter relay solenoid is the high-current switch that connects the battery directly to the starter motor. Pressing the start button sends a small control current to the coil inside the solenoid; the coil pulls a contact bridge across the two heavy studs and the starter receives the full battery current. It is the single hardest-working switch on the machine, and burnt or pitted contacts inside it are one of the most common reasons a quad or a tourer clicks but refuses to crank.
