This is a brand new aftermarket generator stator supplied as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to the Yamaha FZ1, FZS1, FZ8 and YZF R1. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, so it mounts in the original position and plugs into the original harness through a single 3-pin connector. No cutting, no splicing and no modification to the engine cases is required. The connector and the rubber grommet are both included.
The stator is built on the highest grade of lamination materials and wound with the highest grade of copper winding, resistant to 200 degrees Celsius. That matters on these engines, where the charging system runs hot in traffic and a heat-damaged winding is one of the more common causes of a flat battery on an otherwise healthy bike. How do I tell whether my old stator has failed?
Unplug the 3-pin connector and measure between each pair of white wires with a multimeter. A healthy winding reads 0.4 ohms +/-20%. An open circuit between any pair, a large difference between the three pairs, or continuity from any white wire to the stator core all indicate a failed unit. A battery that will not hold charge with a known good regulator rectifier points the same way.
My original carries a different OEM number - will this still fit?
Yamaha used several numbers across this range. This stator covers 2D1-81410-10-00, 2D1-81410-01-00, 2D1-81410-00-00 and 5VY-81410-00-00. Check the number on your original unit against that list, and check the dimensions - 18 mm interior diameter, 68 mm exterior diameter and 42 mm thick.
