This is a brand new stator for the Kawasaki KLF 220 Bayou, covering model years 1988 to 1995. It is a direct replacement for the original Kawasaki unit and installs plug-and-play behind the flywheel with no modification to the engine case or the wiring loom. The stator carries both the alternator winding, which generates the alternating current the regulator rectifier turns into charging voltage, and a separate source winding that supplies the ignition system.

The Bayou 220 is a simple, durable machine and many are still working thirty-plus years after they left the factory, which means the original stator has usually had a very long life by the time it fails. When it does go, the symptoms depend on which winding has broken down. A failed alternator winding shows up as a battery that will not stay charged, lights that dim at idle and brighten with revs, and a machine that needs a jump start after standing. A failed source winding shows up as a weak or absent spark, a misfire that worsens as the engine heats up, or a machine that simply will not fire.
